From Scotland to the Northern Beaches - Meet Rory!

I was born in Dundee, Scotland, where my love for sports began. Growing up, I played as many sports as I could—football, tennis, golf, rugby, and cricket were all part of my daily life. My family was incredibly supportive, always encouraging me to stay active and be a part of a team.

A few years ago, my family moved to various parts of Australia, but I decided to stay in Scotland to continue my studies and training. During that time, I played cricket in both the UK and Australia, which eventually led me to settle down on the beautiful Northern Beaches.

My sporting career has been a fulfilling ride. I was deeply involved in pro youth football and played school 1st XV rugby. But cricket quickly became my main passion. I represented Scotland from a young age, captaining the U15 and U17 teams, and later played for the U19 team at the Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh. I spent five incredible years with the Scotland National Cricket Team and also played for the Scotland A team as an attacking opening batsman.

While pursuing my degree in Applied Sport Science at Edinburgh University, I also worked as a data analyst at a cricket data and analytics company and interned as a sports scientist with a professional football club. These experiences gave me a solid foundation in understanding the science behind athletic performance.

My coaching journey has been just as diverse. I hold an ECB Level 2 coaching accreditation and have had the privilege of coaching at various clubs and schools in Dundee, Edinburgh, Brisbane, and Sydney. Before joining 360 Strength + Performance, I led a major cricket program, managing everything from training and staffing to fixtures and tours.

My passion for Strength and Conditioning (S&C) was sparked during my time with the Scotland National Team. In 2023, I became an accredited S&C coach with the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association after studying at a facility in Brisbane that specialises in Exercise Physiology, Physiotherapy, Exercise Science, and Dietetics. Earlier this year, I further honed my skills through an internship at an athletic performance gym in Sydney, where I also had the opportunity to work with a local AFL team as an S&C coach. This role allowed me to work with a diverse range of athletes, including professional and academy-level players, in both athletic development and rehabilitation programs. I’m currently pursuing the ASCA Level 2 certification to further deepen my expertise.

In addition to my work at 360 Strength + Performance, I lead performance squads' gym-based programs for various sports at a Northern Beaches private school, helping athletes enhance their plyometric, strength, and resilience capabilities.

Joining 360 Strength + Performance has been an exciting new chapter in my career. I’ve enjoyed working with junior and youth development programs, as well as with other youth athletes and clients at different fitness levels. My coaching approach is all about tailoring to the individual needs of each athlete, ensuring everyone has the support to reach their full potential.

I’m excited to be part of this incredible community and look forward to helping you all achieve your fitness and performance goals. Whether it’s through the gym, sport, or general fitness, my aim is to foster a lifelong passion for a healthy, active lifestyle.
